The Botanicum Illustrations
Big Picture Press launched in 2013 with a mandate to publish illustrated books that are "visually intelligent, surprising, and accessible to readers of all ages, abilities, and nationalities," which is certainly a worthy objective. The ensuing years has seen the firm release a steady stream of large-format illustrated books, a number of them illustrated by London-based freelancer Katie Scott.
Several of these have been created in conjunction with Kew Gardens, the London botanical garden founded in 1840, known for its vast collection of both living plants and preserved specimens, the latter of which number in the millions.
Just released is Botanicum, which celebrates the global plant kingdom via more than 100 of Scott's color illustrations, accompanied with text by Kew’s Director of Science Kathy Willis. The book is available in three editions, with the standard edition priced at a modest $14. Also available is a related collection of 50 postcards, shown above.
