CollageIt Updated for Quick Photo Collage Creation

The Mac utility adds new collage types, improved cropping and automatic rotation.

All eyes are understandably focused on last week's release of Creative Suite 6 but that's no reason to forget that modest little graphics applications still have their place. To succeed they need to be cheap, easy to use and perform a single task well. CollageIt's goal is to allow people without graphics or design skills to quickly create collages, or more accurately, mosaics, of their photos or other images. Version 2 brings it closer to nailing this modest category of graphics application.

You start from one of the provided templates, or simply a blank screen, and if necessary change such parameters as page size, background, number of photos, space between them, margins, photo frames and shadow, and so on. Import your images and then tune as necessary, before printing or saving as JPEG, PNG, PDF or PSD.

Version 2 adds the Grid, Center and Pile collage types; the ability to crop an image by double-clicking on it and dragging borders; automatic rotation of photos; improved quality of real-time previews and exported collages; and an increase in the number of photos in a collage from 100 to 200.

CollageIt 2 for Mac can be purchased for $19.90 on the PearlMountain Technology site. A trial version is also available for download.
