Surfing a dust storm - Dennis Windt (dwindt)
| Description: | A tribute to all those trusty steads that galloped our ancestors to safety and helped them build our nations quicker and easier, even against their own odds. (Stage coach team galloping for shelter ahead of an on coming dust storm. Tail wind at their backs resulting in the stead galloping with and inhaling their own dust trail....for the comfort and benefit of mankind. |

I used blur frame and lab sharpening on the frame and shutter. Part of the dust is (hehe) snowscapes with an overlay. I manipulated a soft illustration to the background and fence. Then mixed various photoshop tools to blend the images together.

Very Americanna. Interesting use of the actions. Like the way the light through the gate comes out of the frame.

I wonder if the tumbleweed at the right needs some softening to match the barrel? I like the overall composition very much, though, and the play of gold/orange against the blue/grey.

Thanks very much for the comments wildbearchoc'. The tumble weed gave me a slight problem in the sense that at first it appeared too stagnent but the partial sharpen seemed to loosen it up a little. The barrel has more shadow on the side facing the viewer due to the position of the sun and the building. The tumble weed is more noticable due to being more exposed to the elements than the barrel.

Congradulations! I love this image, I too am a big fan of the use of color in this image, as well as the lighting effects. Especially how you have the light streaming through the broken shutter. Great image!
