The AbleStock Design Brief 10
Project: A design for the front wrapper of a bar of chocolate.
Client: Mertens is Belgian producer of high-quality chocolate. After years of research it has perfected a method of adding specially-prepared vegetable extracts to its traditional, well-regarded milk chocolate. The firm will be introducing this new line of chocolate bars to the North American market, banking on consumers' taste for novelty and respect for old-world quality.
Audience: The new line of chocolates is geared to chocolate fanciers who are seeking new taste sensations. It is hoped that the unusual vegetable flavors will also appeal to those who will see this as a healthy alternative to established competitors, who typically focus on luxurious ingredients.
Design Requirements: The wrapper should reflect the fact that this is a premium product, manufactured by a respected European chocolate maker. But due to the innovative nature of the vegetable flavors, it shouldn't appear stuffy. Rather, the wrapper should provoke the interest of the consumer, while generating trust. More-expensive print and production methods are thus acceptable. The marketing department is leaning towards a muted palette and an emphasis on serif typefaces, but is open to other approaches. The size of the wrapper is 4 by 7 inches, with designs in either orientation accepted. Photos illustrating concepts related to the brochure have been provided from the AbleStock.com collection, but alternative or supporting imagery from the stock.xchng site, or other sources for which the designer has permission, may also be used. The following must be included:
The company name: Mertens
The company mark: Image 5. Just the stylized animal is required.
Branding phrase: Chocolate for the New World
General description: Fine Belgian Dark Milk Chocolate
Weight: 190g
Cocoa content: 72% cocoa content
Description of flavor: Tomato, Zucchini, Radish, Squash or Scallion
