In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create a realistic sky with clouds, using layers in Photoshop. Create a new 800x600 pixel document and fill the background with a blue. The blue used in this step is #006CD9.
Use the default foreground and background colours (D), create a new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) and apply a Clouds filter (Filter > Rende r> Clouds).
Use the Brightness/Contrast tool to apply the following properties:
Brightness: -25
Contrast: 50
Click OK.
Use the Perspective transform tool (Edit > Transform > Perspective) to increase the distance of the top corners.
Add a layer mask (Layer > New Layer Mask > Reveal All) to the current layer
With the layer mask selected, use the "Apply Image" tool to apply the following properties:
Source: filename
Layer: Merged
Channel: RGB
Invert: Uncheckmarked
Blending: Normal
Opacity: 100%
Click OK.
Create a new layer and apply the Clouds filter (Filter > Render > Clouds).
