The latest version of Digital Anarchy's plugin has been given a new interface, as well as additional controls over the creation of cartoon-like effects.
While it's possible to manually give photographs a cartoon look, this typically requires considerable time as well as image-editing proficiency. ToonIt! Photo is designed to allow users to quickly generate a believable cel-shaded cartoon effect thanks to the supplied presets, while also providing considerable control over the results via different parameters. The Effects Palette makes it possible to choose the basic building blocks of the cartoon effect, with six tabs having controls for flat shades of color, edge outlines, shading styles and dot effects. Each Cartoon Effect Group has a set of parameters to change its look, which is further customized by the Style Creator settings. The image below was created by Stanton Perry using ToonIt! Photo.
New in version 2.5 are three new outline effects: Woodcut Outlines, Conte Outlines and Scratchboard Outlines. Also new is a Supersmart Blur feature, which adds additional stylization options of the cartoon color fields. A Caps Lock disable command provides the option of toggling the ToonIt! preview, while the Preset Manager now ships with additional cartoon presets.
ToonIt! Photo 2.5 for Mac and Windows Photoshop 7-CS4 can be purchased on the Digital Anarchy site for $99 until February 7, 2010, and is regularly priced at $159. A trial version is also available for download.
