The collection of three videos are based on the creation of a 3D honeybee.
Luxology claims modo provides one of the fastest paths to creating high-quality 3D content for game development, design visualization, film visual effects, video production and the graphic arts, with the end result being 3D models, associated color and normal maps, and ultra high-quality renderings. One of the attractions of modo is the degree to which it can be configured to meet the needs of users. For example, the interface can easily be changed to provide navigation and hotkeys similar to leading 3D packages such as Autodesk 3ds Max or Maya. Or if you're using it primarily as a 3D paint system, a preset layout is available for related tasks. You can also make modo act like a modeler, a UV editor or a renderer.
modo 401, the most recent version released earlier this year, enables users to model on top of existing geometry, see changes in their scene immediately from the improved Preview renderer and efficiently re-use assets throughout the content creation process. These new features are said to benefit customers in a broad array of disciplines, such as architectural visualization, product design, game development and advertising image production. According to Brad Peebler, president of Luxology, "modo 401 continues our emphasis on making the 3D creative process as fluid as possible for designers and artists."
modo is undoubtedly powerful but those unfamiliar with its workflow requirements, or new to 3D image creation, could well have difficulty getting their head around the package's capabilities, as well as its appropriateness for their requirements. While Luxology provides a series of training videos related to specific aspects of using modo, it has now released a three-video that leads viewers through the mechanics and philosophy of the application, via modeling, rigging and animation, and texturing and rendering, all on the theme of the creation of a bee.
The modo 401 Spotlight Video is accompanied by a 30 day trial version of modo and can be purchased on the Luxology site for $25.
