Win/Mac: Scanner Pro Transforms iPhone into a Scanner
Posted on Tuesday, October 13
A new app from Readdle makes it possible to scan documents with an iPhone and save or email them.

Who hasn't found themselves in the position of having a document in hand, with no way to either transmit its contents to someone via email or save it for future use? If you have an iPhone handy, Scanner Pro should ensure this never happens again, since it lets users scan multipage documents and send them by email or upload them to MobileMe iDisk or other WebDAV-enabled servers. Scanner Pro can be mounted as a shared network drive via wifi to any computer, and scanned PDF files can then be copied from the iPhone without the need of additional software. Once transferred, users can employ the OCR software of their choice to turn the scan into a text file.

While the lens of an iPhone is obviously not going to create scans of the same quality as a desktop—or even handheld—scanner, Readdle claims that "special algorithms" are employed to enhance image quality. Scans can be previewed before sending, with the resulting PDF files optionally password protected.

Scanner Pro can be purchased in the Apple App Store for $6.99.
