Insider Software claims that the utility is "like having anti-virus protection for your fonts."
Smasher lets Mac users view all the fonts in a suitcase— including legacy Mac OS 9 suitcases— and "smash" the suitcases into their smallest components. To smash a suitcase, users drag it into Smasher and click the Smash button or just drag their desired fonts to a Mac OS X folder to let Smasher automatically create a new, more efficient and manageable suitcase. Smashing suitcases provides such benefits as conserving system resources, improving system stability and reliability, simplifying font menus and allowing users to see individual fonts in their native typefaces. New in 1.5 is the ability to split suitcases down to a single style level.
Smasher now also automatically deals with font-related problems when using such applications as those in the Adobe Creative Suite and QuarkXPress, as well as the OS X operating system itself. The utility will take corrective action to ensure that applications display text correctly and print documents properly.
Smasher can be purchased for $49.95 on the Insider Software site. A demo version is also available for download. |
