Typically employed for art and illustration, design engineering and interactive entertainment content creation, trueSpace for Windows employs a real-time direct manipulation approach. The controls reside within the 3D space, so that using them is similar to manipulating objects in the real world. The application is also notable for providing role-based authoring tools for online collaborative production.

trueSpace 7.1 provides improved selection, modeling and texturing tools, and more support for creating collaborative online content. While several renderers are included with trueSpace, the production-quality V-Ray renderer, which provides global illumination and ray tracing, as well as support for subsurface scattering, HDRI, fresnel shader, glossy shader and soft shadows, has until now been available as a separate purchase.
