Win/Mac: Just Published: Ballistic's PAINTER, Devoted to Corel Painter Illustrations
Posted on Monday, January 16
Ballistic Publishing, known for its lavishly-produced volumes of 2D and 3D art, have devoted their latest publication entirely to work created with the Corel Painter cross-platform natural media program.

Way back when, the primary use for early versions of Painter was to quickly apply "painterly" effects to existing images. And in fact Corel still sells a Windows version of Corel Painter Essentials, which does primarily that. But over the years Painter has evolved to such an extent that there's really nothing like it for either creating sophisticated illustrations from scratch using a mind-boggling range of natural media simulation techniques, or as part of a high-end illustration workflow that typically includes Photoshop and often a variety of 3D applications.

Created in conjunction with Corel Corp., the creator of Painter, Ballistic's new volume provides a showcase for 209 works by 135 artists in such categories as Portraits, Concept Art, Fantasy, Editorial Illustration and Abstract Art, with images chosen by such well-known members of the Painter community as Cher Threinen-Pendarvis and Jeremy Sutton (Graphics.com hosts a number of their Painter tutorials).

The softbound edition of the 192-page book is available for $45 directly from the Ballistic Publishing site, with a black leather-bound special edition available for $99.
