Taking Card payments for design work

I have started a small in home design business, and I'm wondering
how others might go about taking credit/debit payments for work. I know there
are services that will set up a Visa machine for you but with monthly fees. Anybody have any ideas for a really small studio with need for an occasional
credit transaction. Thanks.

If it's just for a few transactions a month I suggest PayPal pro with virtual terminal for taking card payments over the phone. No set up fees and no need for hardware. The only downside is that they will charge you £20 a month.

There are other alternatives such as Nochex, but they will hold a certain amount of money (depending on your limit needs) in the account at all times, although I don't think they would charge you a monthly fee.
