Canon 2OD
Canon 100mm+50mm reversed+46mm extension tubes.
Canon 580ex set to +1
Camera Raw
ISO 1600
f/32
Hand-held
1/125th a sec

This was a fun shot... had to reduce the noise and adjust the tones. Thought I would try shooting the reverse setup with extension tubes. Pretty pleased with the results. I need to move the flash closer to the insects. The DOF is very shallow and I need more light. I caught this fly near my porchlight this evening. Still working on a few others of the same fly. Shot a few @ ISO 3200... was grasping for straws so the speak. Will post a few tomorrow if they turn out. Hope you like the shot.

Holy close ups! Wow what a cool shot of the fly's face. Impressive especially for a hand held shot.

WOW!!! Amazing shot Hatch! You really have a knack for extreme close-up shots...either that or you really, really like bugs! icon_wink.gif

Thanks all. Glad you like the shot. I was pleased with the results considering the conditions. Here is another one from the same series.

Very interesting. I did not know bugs had a line of hairs across their eyes. Atleast this one does.

Hatch, another amazing photo! Can I make a request? I'd really like to see a spider face close up.

Poor Gerbick. Not into bugs?? Or is it the spider request thats making you shudder??

Its funny that my 5'2" mom could swat spiders but 6'5" step dad freaked even at the little ones. icon_smile.gif

Naw, bugs don't really bother me. Neither do much anything else, snakes included.

Maggots though, different story. Creep me the heck out.

I'll agree with you there. Maggots give me the creeps too. Most bugs are pretty cool although cockroachs are very low on my bug list.

Now snakes on the other hand I find very cool. Unfortunately many of them are poisonous and therefore to be kept at a distance. I'm fortunate enough to live in a state with only 1 poisonous snake. So I can catch all the ones I like so long as I avoid the rattlesnakes which is pretty easy to do. icon_smile.gif
