icon_redface.gif hi guys, how y'all doin?..my name is kamilia but just call me kamil, 29 from indonesia and still learning too be a graphic designer haha.

I want to ask you guys, related to my work right now. Its about Neon sign (neonbox) with my company branding.
as far as i know (but i dont know if it's right or not)
the designs for such branding is simple and best. like only put our company logo and 1 sentence of tag line or something.
But my superior asked to also put some (but in my opinion is just too much) information. like our available services and to put 2 logo's in one panel (dimension wide 80 cm and length 150 cm).
i'm a little bit confused to make it look goods but also contain that much of information.

i hope i'm not confusing y'all with my lack english writing hehe. Any thoughts to share?? PLEASE

thank you guys

Hi Kamil, welcome to the forums.
Are you able to post an image of the design, it would be much easier to discuss the design with an example to see.

Kamilia,

1. a sign is made to be read from far, so you are right and your boss is wrong
2. reading goes from left to right, so a vertical, narrow sign weak
3. Less is better. You cannot in a glimpse, memorize all this info. This is the reason of the logo and brand build-up.
4. Your boss signs your pay check, so explain the bad and if he still wants the vertical +info, just do it.

@lucdesaulniers

thank you for opinion that supports mine, i already explained about the bad thing to my boss, but still she refused to agree with me although i had some people back me up with it.

She misunderstood things about being out of the box and be different, well i'm not againts her but still if its all the right way. icon_rolleyes.gif

its quite depressing though coz i felt like my idea is hard to grow in this kind a place haha.

anyway thats why i bring it to this international forum to know what y'all thought about it.

warm regards

Tell your boss to stick at what she does best as she clearly has no idea about design...

If you fear about being sacked, tell her to get in touch with me and I'll gladly repeat the above to her (for free...)[/code][/i]

hi guys it's been a while and my boss still with her odd perspective, well she's the one with the money so i just play the game hehe. This is what she finally approved. So sad though coz you just cant feel the "design" coz there is none.

She Kept insisting that although people cant see the information attach, they still can see the logo...hmm well duuhh

What's the point of a sign that you can't read except up close?

Sounds like your boss is just trying to save face by being "right" (even if it's at the companies expense!)

Cheers

@ Perseus :

i TOTALLY agree... its kind a syndrome that takes a long time to heal, the medicine : market/customer view + self aware, maybe.

thanx for the reply guys,
next time i did some odd design i'll put it here to ask another of your opinion.

cheers

Hey,

I hope i am not over board with this reply , but i have 2 ideas.

1. The small words on a design that has the design elements really interesting might add to you curiosity to see what the hell it is saying because i can't read it from here , so I get closer and step 1 of atracting the first glance of the public si kinda complete.

2. you could work if you have the time to two versions , your way and the boss's way. maybe you'll choose one of them (at least each one of you will show the other what they actually mean), or find a middle design for it with the good parts of the 2 design pre-made.

just saying, hope it's useful.
