Am I the only one? When visiting the Forum, or the Challenge pages, I get a constant reload of the page. The only way to stop it is to hit the "interrupt" or "stop" button on my browser... Any one else has the same issue?

This is happening only with this site, with both Firefox and Safari. Too make double sure, I clered my cookies, and rebooted my Mac. Still does it!!!! icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif

I even have a hard getting to your reply, my browser brings me right back to the main forum page in manner of a milliseconds...

EDIT: I now am trying with my other Mac and its working properly. So I guess the problem is in my court, Sorry to have sounded a false alarm..

Sounds like an unusual problem and I sympathise. My desktop computer conked out yesterday so I am stuck with the laptop. Computers must be the most frustrating things in the world when not working properly.

No problems here ... and lets keep it that way.

My husband arrived at work this morning to discover that the road was blocked by fire trucks and his office was in flames.

To add to my confusion, since this is the only site that creates this problem, I have explored a little deeper and found the source of the constant refresh. This weird reaction comes from the right hand site vertical ad holder, the change of ad is in a loop. Once one ad is fully downloaded the next one start downloading and thus the page refresh itself once again, this in a constant loop. On the landing page, this does not happens because there is no display of these vertical right side ad banner. On my iMac (where this doesn't happen), I am using OSX 10.4 with Safari 4.03 & Firefox 3.0.14. The problem computer is a G5, OSX 10.3.9 with Safari 1.3.2 and Firefox 2.0.0.20. The whole situation started today. All this info in case someone wants too look into it.

He's still there ... it is a small building. The ceiling fell in ... the fire officials are saying it was an electrical fire ... the computers are a lost cause ... his file cabinet is intact though. He manages a charter bus company. Recovering schedules for trips, customer records, and payments is going to be a nightmare ... all that info was on the computers ... not to mention that they have to figure out where they are going to be working.

Thank God he has a cell phone. At least he has been able to give me updates throughout the day. Did I mention that it has been raining all day?

Barb, sometimes the computer is a loss, but not the hard drive. You could pull it out and install it in working one. Or even better and easier, you can get these connectors that connect the pulled out drive with a USB input on a PC (I've used these in the past when upgrading to a bigger drive - allowed me to keep all the data without having to transfer back everything to the newer drive)

Time will tell ... Bruce uses a desk computer and John uses a desktop. It is Johns computer that holds the most needed information at the moment and Johns office is where the fire started. They were hoping that they could save the hard drive and recover his info but from what I've heard it is totally demolished.

Wisdom after the event is so easy, but backup, backup, backup.

I am terrified of losing all my images from something of this sort. Drives are so cheap nowadays that I run an automatic backup program that backs up hourly in the background to a 2 Terabyte external disc in another part of the loft entirely. Hopefully this might protect from fire or theft where the computer is located. There are plenty of softwares that do this, although with the new Mac OS it is included as a standard part of the system.

Once a year I completely reformat my HD's and then reinstall the entire system from the backup. Then I reformat the backup disc and start a fresh backup. Good housekeeping! icon_cool.gif

This may seem cautious to the point of paranoia but I learned my lesson some years ago when my old PC caught fire from a fault in the power pack. Thankfully I was able rescue the information from the HD, but it scared me enough to become hyper cautious. icon_eek.gif

Looks like something is up with the display ads, so this may well have been picked up by your browser.

Ouch Barb that's got to hurt. Hopefully he's got some records off site with which to rebuild from. I hope they can manage to salvage some of the data from the drives. It will make things easier for your husband to rebuild his business.
