VSCO Film 05 Released for Adobe Camera Raw Analog Film Emulation
The fascination with giving digital images an analog look is far from over. VSCO Film 01 was devoted to modern films, such as Fuji 400H and Kodak Tri-X, while 02 covered classic films that included Ilford Delta 3200 and Kodak Portra 400 VC. The 03 collection covered instant films such as Polaroid 665 and PX-70, while 04 emulated slide film. So what's left?
VSCO Film 05 provides 185 presets that mimic what the developer calls classic "archetype" films from the analog era, which is to say mass-market negative films, such as Agfa Vista 400, Kodak Gold 100 and Fuji Neopan 400, including Night/Tungsten versions. As with previous collections this provides native Adobe Camera Raw controls and functionality that allows users to generate the desired look without leaving the ACR environment. Also included are custom profiles for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, Olympus and Leica cameras. Users can make use of such tools as Clarity Down, Heavy Vignette and various Toning looks to achieve an authentic film look. The plugin works best with Raw files, although the quality of JPG processing is apparently nothing to sneeze at.
VSCO Film 05, available for Lightroom 4-5 and Adobe Photoshop CS6 and CC, is priced at $199 but for a limited time can be purchased at a 25% discount on the Visual Supply Co. site. The image above, by Jessica Silversagea, is an example of Agfa Vista 800 Contrast +, with other examples shown below.
