The Rookies: Call for Entries
What if you're a talented young visual creative, about to graduate and thinking about where to begin your career? You can do worse than enter the annual Rookies competition, which has since its inception lined up internships for more than 70 young artists with such studios such as Weta Digital, Double Negative, The Mill, Gameloft, Crytek, Framestore and Epic Games.
All very nice, you say, but those shops have a focus on visual effects, animation and gaming, none of which are really your thing. True, but the good news is that for this year's competition new categories have been introduced, with the lineup now including Architecture, Film Making, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, Motion Graphics, Gaming, Photography, Robotics, VFX & Animation, Virtual Reality and Web & Mobile. Which is pretty much everything worth doing, as far as we can see. And yes, there are prizes of related software and hardware.
Those entering must be 18 years or older and have attended a certified higher educational training facility such as a university, academy, college or institute of technology, between January 2015 and May 2016. Entries can be submitted on the Rookies site until May 29, 2016. The site also displays many of the winners from earlier competitions, from which we've picked a few favorites.
