Output Factory Incorporates PDF Security Options into InDesign Workflow Settings

Printing and exporting to multiple formats with multiple parameters can be a time-consuming task, fraught with the possibility of error. Zevrix Solutions provides Output Factory, for Mac Adobe InDesign, as a way to speed this process and reduce the possibility of error for recurrent tasks, via presets. Users can simply select the desired documents, adjust the settings or select presets, and then let the plugin perform the required exports and printing. It performs such handy tasks as outputting all files on a list automatically or showing Print/Export dialogs for each file, as well as allowing users to instantly employ new presets created in InDesign. Final output files can be automatically sent to FTP and local destinations using the included File Courier, a professional digital delivery solution from Zevrix providing advanced features.

Output Factory automates and simplifies the output workflows of design agencies, printers, service providers and publishing houses. It can save a group of output settings as workflows; compose variable names interactively using tokens; output a sequence of document layers or their combinations; preflight documents using InDesign's preflight or built-in settings; skip files with specific errors; and generate a detailed processing history with preflight results and error log. Users can automatically split multiple InDesign documents into single page documents, with the option to split them into single pages or spreads. The resulting InDesign files can be saved into a specified location or the folder where the original InDesign file is located. Users can also output batches of InDesign files with a single set of HTML export settings, in addition to exporting each file in a batch using its current HTML settings; this is said to be especially helpful for those who need to select a specific CSS file to be batched with every HTML document.

Users can output printer spreads for professional printing directly to a PostScript file using InDesign's Print Booklet feature. While imposing pages, users can adjust spacing between pages, margins, bleed, creep and other parameters. The feature apparently is useful for workflows where imposed pages have to be distilled to PDF for final processing and output. The plugin supports printing as well as exporting to PDF, PostScript, EPS, Flash, INX, IDML, EPUB, INDD and several image formats.

Version 1.5.21 adds the ability to incorporate PDF security options into workflow settings. According to the developer, even InDesign itself doesn't make it possible to create batches of secure PDF files that incorporate password protection, encryption and the restriction of printing, copying and editing.

Output Factory, which works with Mac InDesign CS3-CC 2014, can be purchased on the Zevrix Solutions site for $169.95. A Light version is also provided for $120, while the Server edition is priced at $700. A free trial is available for download.
