Graphis New Talent Annual 2017: Call for Entries
Graphis, The International Journal of Visual Communication, was first published in 1944 by Dr. Walter Amstutz and Walter Herdeg in Zurich, Switzerland. Graphis presented the work of fine artists and illustrators, as well as highlighting the formative years of graphic design as we know it today. Advertising and photography were also featured, and Amstutz selectively chose what he felt to be the best talent of the time, with the Graphis Annual introduced in 1952. In 2005 the magazine was discontinued, with the following years seeing the improvement of the Graphis Annuals. The current website displays contest entries as well as an archive of award-winning work from the Annuals and digital versions of past magazines.
Graphis currently produces Design, Advertising, Photography, Poster and New Talent Annuals, with published work selected from among the entries. Entries for New Talent are submitted jointly by both professor and student, with all entries providing a free one-year Graphis Professional membership. Chosen New Talent entries earn a Graphis Platinum, Gold or Silver Award, with winners each given a full-page presentation in the 250-page printed Annual, which is read by professional and corporate audiences internationally. All winners also receive exposure on the site and a discount on the purchase of the Annual.
The deadline for the New Talent Annual 2017 is October 25, 2016, with entry information and a gallery of the current entries available on the Graphis site. Some of the winners from the 2016 competition are shown below.
