Call for Entries: OpenBrand's Rising Star Graphic Design Contest
OpenBrand is not, as you might think from the name, a branding agency. Instead, its commitment is to building a collaboration platform and ecosystem for designers, creative agencies and their clients. The cloud-based service makes it possible to organize and document source files and production data, with the ability to share, discuss and update projects. An update earlier this year gave the service a new interface as well as Mac and Windows plugins for Photoshop and Illustrator CC and CC 2014, making it possible to access resources organized within OpenBrand in a visual manner. Also interesting is a collection of design mockups, allowing designers to display their work as it would look on billboards, clothing, vehicles and other surfaces.
OpenBrand's Rising Star Graphic Design Contest will reward the winner with return air tickets from anywhere in the world and a three-month position at Techstars in London, along with £1,000 a month. While the winner won't get rich, three months at Techstars, which describes itself modestly as "the #1 startup accelerator in the world," could make a difference career-wise and London shouldn't be too painful a place to pass the time. The top 20 entries will receive RisingStar finalist certificates, free lifetime OpenBrand Professional accounts, Photoshop extensions from Source and a free year of Avocode. So how can you enter?
Entries must be made online and consist of a design for a corporate identity for a real or fictional brand. The submission needs to include several incarnations of the design, such as logotype, business card or letterhead. As well as posting on the contest site, you're encouraged to also display it on your Behance or Dribble profile, since the winners will be determined by the number of votes they get. The deadline for submissions is January 19, 2015, but of course the sooner the better to snag the maximum votes. Last year's event received entries from 40 countries, with Paulina Rodriguez Vasconcelos snagging the top prize for her work, shown below, and more entries available for browsing.
