Call for Entries: The International Reggae Poster Contest
Founded by Michael Thompson and Maria Papaefstathiou in 2011, the annual International Reggae Poster Contest celebrates international reggae culture, encompassing all popular Jamaican musical genres such as Ska, Rocksteady, Roots Reggae, Dub, Dancehall and the unique Jamaican Sound System. It also has a rather ambitious goal to construct a Reggae Hall of Fame museum and performance center in Kingston, Jamaica, to celebrates the voice, vision and vocabulary of Jamaican popular music, ideally designed by no less than Frank Gehry.
Submissions are currently being accepted for the fourth contest, with the theme being "Toward a Reggae Hall of Fame: Celebrating Great Jamaican Music," and designs tasked to "capture the energy and the vibe of Reggae Music." The best posters will be selected by a jury of design professionals and will be exhibited in the competition's Art of Reggae exhibitions around the world. Prizes include such things as Apple iPads, font packages, headphones, related vinyl records and DVDs, and so on. There is no fee for entry.
Entries will be accepted until October 15, 2015, with more information and a gallery of past winners available on the contest site. We've included a few 2014 winners below.
