Call for Entries: The Derwent Art Prize
Launched in 2012, the Derwent Art Prize has as its goal showcasing artworks created in pencil by British and international artists. If you're located outside of the UK, you may not be familiar with the Derwent firm, which goes back to the 19th century and manufactures a wide range of drawing materials.
Previous contests have attracted entries from 58 countries, with entries for the third iteration being accepted until June 1, 2016. Eligible work must have been created using water-soluble pencils, pastel, graphite, charcoal or colored pencils, so that covers a lot of ground. Prizes totalling almost $18,000 will be awarded, with all work displayed online and 80 selected works chosen for exhibition at the Mall Galleries, The Mall, London. More information is available on the contest site, with some of the winning entries shown below.
