Call for Entries: D&AD Professional Awards 2015

British-based D&AD (originally British Design & Art Direction) was established in 1962 as a non-profit organization representing the creative, design and advertising communities, with a recent emphasis on demonstrating the impact of creativity and innovation on enhancing business performance. Of its many activities, perhaps the best known is its D&AD Professional Awards, as well as the related Annual, which features some of the best global design and advertising work.

Early next year, hundreds of the world's leading creatives will gather to judge the tens of thousands of pieces of work entered in the 2015 awards contest, in such disciplines as advertising, book design, branding and packaging, digital, direct, graphic design and typography, magazine and newspaper design, music videos and film crafts, photography, product design, TV and cinema communications, writing, illustration and spatial design. The judges will sit on 25 specialist juries, spending up to five days assessing the work, with voting always private and never by a show of hands. Works are initially chosen for inclusion in the D&AD Annual, with a subset nominated and then chosen to receive a Yellow Pencil, a mark of creative excellence. Yellow Pencil choices proceed to Black Pencil judging, with juries split into advertising, digital and design, and work only receiving this distinction if it's deemed groundbreaking or redefines its medium. The White Pencil is awarded to work that "affects real and positive change."

The ‘Slice’ honors those who are awarded at Nomination and In Book level. In Book includes entries that are deemed to be the year’s best creative work, which feature in the D&AD Annual. Nomination entries are seen as rising above the In Book standard and have the potential to win a Pencil.

More information is available on the D&AD site, with previous Pencil-winning work available for viewing, with some of the winners in the 2014 Posters category shown below. The deadline is February 18, 2015, although entries received prior to October 29, 2014 receive a 10% discount.
