Photoshop Fundamentals: Create a Sun Ray Effect

You can apply this effect to your own image, or download the example image shown at right. Launch Photoshop and open the sunray.tif image, or your own file. Press F7 to show the Layers palette. Click the Create New Layer button (below). Press D to set Default colors (black foreground, white background). Choose Filter > Render > Clouds.
Choose Filter > Blur > Radial Blur. Use the options in the resulting Radial Blur dialog box and click OK.
Set the Layer Mode to Overlay.
You're done. Our final effect is shown at left (click to enlarge). Try applying different Blending Layer modes, such as Soft Light, to achieve different results.
