Photoshop Fundamentals: Add a Soft Touch to an Image

Download the soft.tif file, launch Photoshop, open the file, press F7 to show the Layers palette. Drag the Background layer to the Create New Layer button to duplicate it.
Choose Filter > Noise > Median. Use the options in the resulting Median dialog box (below) and click OK. Set the Layer Mode to Luminosity and the Opacity to 80%.
Click the Add Layer Mask button. Press D to set Mask Default colors, then press X to inverse them so that Black is the Foreground color. Select the Brush tool (B). Use the options in the resulting Options bar (below). Paint over the eyes, brows, lips, and pearls.

Change the options in the Options bar and paint over the necklace and the earring.

Change the options in the Options bar and paint over the edging of the dress.
You're done. The final image is shown at left.
